DEFINITION: literally firmness; figuratively security; morally fidelity:--faith(-ful, -ly, -ness, (man)), set office, stability, steady, truly, truth, verily.
NOTE: The Hebrew word for faith is "Emunah" (אֱמוּנָה). It means to be secure, solidly fixed in place, to stand firm in the sense of a support, and not subject to change or revision. Additionally, I stumbled across a teaching from the Ark that exemplified what exactly faith meant to the Hebrews of the Bible.
For starters, he asked, “Can you draw faith?” Everyone answered, “no”. He further explained that in Hebrew you could because the Hebrew language is a concrete language and there is a picture for every word. Faith’s picture is a picture of a nail. But why a nail? Well, what is the purpose of a nail? A nail holds things securely in place.
In biblical days, Hebrews lived in a tent (Sukkot) which sheltered them from the elements, wild animals, etc. On each corner of their tent, they would fasten it to the ground with one nail. They had placed their faith that the ONE nail on each side of their tent would secure it and keep it in place. Not nine nails...not five… not two...ONE.
